General Healthy Food Guidelines

Dietary changes are not always easy, but “dis-ease” can be reduced or even eliminated by removing processed foods and eating wholesome, unrefined foods. Raw foods, especially, contribute to the cleansing and rebuilding of our bodies. The food guidelines below are recommended for anyone who wants to improve their health. Additional changes to your diet may be necessary for those with particular health challenges, such as candida overgrowth.

Eliminate Dairy Products

Why is it a problem? causes excess mucous, high cholesterol, overly acid

What would be a better choice? rice or almond milk, goat cheese, rice cheese, raw milk cheese, Rice Dream or So Delicious “Ice Cream”

Eliminate white flour and refined carbohydrates

Why is it a problem? lack of B vitamins, coats the intestines, creates excess mucous, weight gain, converts to sugar

What would be a better choice? whole wheat, buckwheat or rye flour; brown, wild, jasmine, basmati, black and red rice; bulgar, quinoa, couscous or other whole grains

Eliminate sugar and artificial sweeteners

Why is it a problem? puts stress on the pancreas and adrenal glands, cancer, brain cell damage, weight gain

What would be a better choice? Stevia, xylitol, organic zero, raw honey, maple syrup, concentrated apple juice, applesauce

Eliminate pork and fish that bottom feed

Why is it a problem? creates over-acid condition, parasites, viruses, unclean meats

What would be a better choice? beans, lentils, peas, tempeh

Limit red meats

Why is it a problem? creates over-acid condition (arthritis, osteoporosis, etc.), hard to digest

What would be a better choice? beans, lentils, peas, tempeh

Eliminate coffee and tea

Why is it a problem? creates vitamin and mineral loss, cancer

What would be a better choice? herbal and green teas, fruit juice, vegetable juice, water

Eliminate salt

Why is it a problem? causes high blood pressure, potassium imbalance, water retention

What would be a better choice? seasonings, dulse, celery seed

Helpful Hints

  • Drink ½ gallon of distilled water at room temperature every day
  • Use only cold-pressed oils (extra virgin olive or grapeseed oil) and never fry
  • Use small amounts of real butter, not margarine
  • Eat fruit on an empty stomach or with raw unsalted nuts and seeds
  • Add sprouts to everything – live food = life (make sure they are properly cleaned)
  • When looking at your plate, the largest portion should be your vegetables
  • You should have a salad with most meals
  • Make supper your smallest meal (the word “supper” came from “to sup” as in eating soup)
